You Break It: Watch/Help Get It Fixed

When one of your operators breaks his/her sweeper in a careless manner, consider requiring that they watch and/or assist in the process of fixing it.

For example, if an operator bends the head on the sweeper due to not watching what s/he was running over with it, then make them watch and, ideally, help during the process of bending it straight again or having to replace it.

Yes, you have to pay them to take part in the process. However, experience shows that they will not like having to be in the shop during the repair process. It will serve as an enduring reminder not to let that sort of accident occur in the future.

Some contractors even report docking an operator's pay for damaging the sweeper. If you are considering doing so, be sure to check with the laws of your state to ensure you are allowed to dock pay for damages in that manner, though.
