ASTM Considering New Stormwater Committee
by Ranger Kidwell-Ross
The American Society for Testing of Materials (ASTM) is hosting a public meeting/call on Oct 1 from 9am-3pm (EDT). This meeting/call is referred to as an "Organizational Meeting" and the goal of the event is to decide on the formation of a new group within ASTM to develop testing standards and similar products for stormwater products and practices.
Currently, the only group within ASTM that has any focus on stormwater products/practices is a subcommittee of the Concrete Committee that is referred to as C27.70. Since the stormwater management sector uses materials far beyond just precast concrete products for both proprietary products and public domain practices (including green infrastructure) the ideal outcome of this meeting will be the establishment of a new full committee on stormwater, which will open up the potential to develop standards for a variety of stormwater infrastructure applications.
The details of the ASTM Organizational Meeting is provided at the link below:
Note that you do not need to be an ASTM member to participate and vote at this meeting; however, there is a limit of one vote per entity/organization. Also, to participate in this event, you are required to register with Frank McConnell with ASTM via email sent to (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The formation of a new entity within ASTM that focuses on stormwater products and practices standards is key to the future growth and development of the Stormwater Testing and Evaluation for Products and Practices (STEPP) program.
